IPL 7: IPL Governing Council confirms new Player regulations

Here are some notable decisions taken by the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council (GC) ahead of the 2014 IPL auctions to be held on February 12 and February 13, 2014.

Player retention:

• Rs 12.5 crore for the 1st capped Player• Rs 9.5 crore for the 2nd capped Player• Rs 7.5 crore for the 3rd capped Player• Rs 5.5 crore for the 4th capped Player• Rs 4 crore for the 5th capped Player• Rs 4 crore for every uncapped Player

• Each franchise should have a minimum of 16 players to a maximum of 27 players in its squad.

• The total number of overseas players a franchise can have in its squad is limited to nine(9).

• A team need not necessarily have a player from its catchment area in its playing 11.

• Under-19 players must have either represented their state or for that matter any state side, in List A or First-class cricket before becoming eligible for selection in an IPL side.

• A franchise must at least spend Rs 36 crore in each of the 2014, 2015 & 2016 seasons.

• The league fee is restricted to only the Indian Premier League commitments and six approved friendly matches. If the franchise needs its players to play Champions League T20, it needs to pay the player 10% of his IPL fee.

• Franchises are not allowed to retain more than four capped Indian players, which includes the player that can be bought back through a joker card too.
