Loud music by the DJ forces MS Dhoni to leave practice session midway

MS Dhoni inspects the pitch at Cuttack on Sunday

India has their backs-to-the-wall and faces a must-win situation against South Africa in the second T20 that will take place in Cuttack on Monday evening. Ahead of the crunch encounter, limited overs skipper MS Dhoni was forced to cut short his practice session on Sunday. The reason? Due to the high volume of the music that was being played at the ground by the disc jockey(DJ), The Indian Express reports.

As soon as the 34-year-old wicket-keeper batsman entered the stadium for a hit in the nets, the DJ raised the intensity of the music, which clearly didn't leave the Indian skipper amused and he sent a message across to turn it off.

But instead of adhering to him, the DJ continued to play the music and that led to Dhoni walking away from the nets.

When enquired about the incident, the President of the Orissa Cricket Association(OCA) Ranjib Biswal said that such a thing wasn't out-of-the-ordinary and hoped to have a good game on Monday.

“Cricket has always been a big craze in this part of the world, formats notwithstanding. So this is expected. Hope we will have a good game tomorrow,” he said.

A source close to the team played down the incident, saying that the DJ was only testing the speakers and added that they weren't going to file a complaint with the OCA over it.

“It’s a minor thing. The DJ was testing his speakers. Maybe he failed to understand the communication but he had eventually stopped. The team is not filing any complaint to the Orissa Cricket Association (OCA),” the source said.

The target of 200 set by the hosts for South Africa in the first T20 at Dharamshala didn't prove to be enough in the end as JP Duminy and Farhaan Behardien stitched together a stand of 105 runs, which helped the visitors pull off a 7-wicket win and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

With the weather expected to be cloudy, it would be interesting to see what the captains opt to do at the toss. The Barabati Stadium has traditionally favoured the batsmen, but with chances of rain around the corner, chasing wouldn't be a bad option either.
