Mayanti Langer: All you need to know about her journey so far

Mayanti Langer is growing in reputation as a sports anchor

Mayanti Langer is among the most popular faces in Indian sports broadcasting these days. In her current association with Star Sports, she has covered a number of major international sports events. However, Langer does have a lot of experience of working with other sports broadcasters in the country as well. In fact, she is easily one of the most renowned names when it comes to football TV journalists from India.

Born on 8 February 1985 to Lt. General Sanjiv Langer and Preminda Langer, Mayanti is a BA (Hons) graduate from the Hindu College in New Delhi. Her father was associated with the UN whereas her mother is a teacher. Langer's first break in sports broadcasting came about when she was roped in as guest anchor for a FIFA beach football event. She was approached by the Zee Network to host a football talk show named Football Cafe on their channel Zee Sports.

This marked the beginning of Mayanti's long stint with Zee as she went on to host a number of football shows and also engaged in pre-match, half-time and post-match analysis. Along with this, she also conducted interviews and did commentary in matches. Easily the biggest highlight of Langer's career as a sports broadcaster was when she hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup for ESPN alongside the likes of John Dykes. In the same year, the talented anchor also went on to host the Commonwealth Games held in her hometown, New Delhi.

In what was her first major foray into the world of cricket broadcasting, Mayanti Langer was roped in by ESPN Star Sports for their coverage of the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, which was played primarily in India. Even as she was gaining prominence as a TV sports journalist, Mayanti tied the knot with Karnataka domestic cricketer Stuart Binny, who is the son of former Indian all-rounder Roger Binny, in the year 2012. Binny was not playing international cricket at that point but got his first break 2 years later as part of the limited-overs team.

Mayanti Langer's cricket engagements started to increase in number as she was a host during the coverage of India's 2013 Test series in South Africa on Ten Cricket. This was followed by an opportunity to cover the last season of the Champions League T20 and also play one of the hosts for Star Sports in the 2015 ICC World Cup. Currently, she is working with the Star Sports network and most recently hosted the 2016 edition of the ICC World Twenty20. Apart from that, she also does a number of shows relating to cricket and other sports on the various Star Sports channels .

During the 2016 VIVO IPL, Mayanti Langer has been the 'Cricket Live' show for the live streaming of matches on Starsports.com where she does analysis alongside former Indian and international cricketers. Langer has quickly established herself as a prominent name in the world of TV sports journalists and things are only going to get greater for her from here.
