Jacques Kallis takes 200 catches in Test cricket

Jacques Kallis took his 200th catch in Test cricket when he moved towards his left to safely pouch an easy catch of Jean-Paul Duminy’s bowling, to send back Ravindra Jadeja for a duck. Having earlier announced that he will be hanging up his boots after the completion of the ongoing Boxing Day match against India at Durban, Kallis was one short of the milestone.

However, the world record for the most number of catches by a non-wicketkeeper in Test cricket is safe for the time being as Rahul Dravid is comfortably ahead of Kallis with 210 catches to his name. Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawerdene, who is 37 years old and on 194 catches now, is the only player who has a realistic chance of breaking the record in near future.
