Central Stags secured a six-wicket win over Wellington Firebirds in the 22nd match of Super Smash 2023-24 at Basin Reserve in Wellington.

After winning the toss, Wellington Firebirds elected to bat first. Top-order batters Nathan Smith (4), Nick Greenwood (2), and Nick Kelly (8) failed to create an impact in the powerplay overs. A few overs later, Jesse Tashkoff (7) followed suit.

Muhammad Arslan Abbas continued his good form, scoring 35 runs off 29 balls, including one four and two sixes. In the lower middle order, Logan van Beek scored an unbeaten 24-ball 41-run knock with three fours and two sixes to take the side's total to 147/8 in 20 overs.

Doug Bracewell and Blair Tickner claimed two wickets each for Stags, while Bevan Small, Joey Field, and Jayden Lennox bagged one wicket apiece. In the chase, opener Will Young departed early for just seven runs. However, Jack Boyle sustained the momentum, smacking 57 off 43 balls with 10 fours.

Captain Tom Bruce and all-rounder Doug Bracewell kept the momentum going in the middle overs. Bruce went on to score 26 runs off 21 balls with three boundaries, while Bracewell took up the aggressor's role, hitting 30* off 11, including four maximums. Logan van Beek, Michael Snedden, Peter Younghusband, and Jesse Tashkoff picked one wicket apiece for the Firebirds.

Wellington batter Tim Robinson smacked 298 runs to hold the top spot in the batting standings. Canterbury's Henry Nicholls retained his second rank with 213 runs from six innings. Stags batter Dane Cleaver amassed 192 runs to hold the third position.

Wellington skipper Nick Kelly accumulated 178 runs to hold the fourth position. Doug Bracewell's match-winning cameo propelled him from 10th to the fifth slot, with a tally of 169 runs. Will Young slipped down one spot to sixth, smacking 166 runs. Muhammad Arslan Abbas rocketed from 13th to seventh rank, racking up 165 runs.

Finn Allen (154), Cole McConchie (153), and Jeet Raval (148) descended two positions each to make it to the eighth, ninth, and 10th slots respectively.

Central Stags pacer Bevan Small dominates the pole position in the wickets standings with 13 scalps from six innings. Wellington’s leg-spinner Peter Younghusband moved one spot up to hold the second rank with 12 wickets.

Auckland pacer Louis Delport slid one slot down to third position with 11 scalps at an average of 11.72. Wellington's Logan van Beek (11) propelled from sixth to fourth rank at 20.63. Auckland all-rounder Danru Ferns (10) retained his fifth position at 13.9.

Wellington's Nathan Smith descended from fourth to sixth position, claiming 10 wickets, averaging 17.3. Ben Lister (9) climbed one position to hold the seventh spot at 13.44. Zak Foulkes (9) slid from seventh to eighth rank at 16.77. Jayden Lennox (9) and Jake Gibson (8) maintain their ninth and 10th positions, respectively.
