Pakistani fans mock Virat Kohli on Twitter as India lose No.1 Test ranking

IndiancCricket star Virat Kohli was mocked by Pakistani fans on social media regarding Pakistan’s No.1 ranking among the Test playing nations. India is currently in the United States of America for a 2-match T20 series against the West Indies over the weekend and Kohli led the side to a memorable Test series win against the same opposition in the Caribbean islands. This was the first Test series win for India outside the sub-continent under the leadership of Virat Kohli, who scored a century in the first Test match at Antigua.

Pakistan recently reached the top of the ICC Test rankings after India’s draw against the West Indies in the rain-curtailed fourth game at the Queens Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago. Pakistani cricket fans were seen posting pictures of Virat Kohli and Misbah-ul-Haq together with the later reigning supremacy over the Indian. One of the several pictures portrayed the Pakistani skipper sitting on a king’s throne and Virat Kohli standing beside him.

Pakistan recently had an excellent tour of England having shared the honours 2-2 in the 4 match Test series by virtue of some brilliant performances by the captain as well as veteran Younis Khan and spinner Yasir Shah. During the first Test at Lord’s, Misbah became the oldest captain to score a Test century at the age of 42 years and 46 days.

Experienced batsman Younis Khan also played a gem of an innings in the final test at the Oval and guided the Asian giants to a historic 10-wicket victory. He scored a massive 218 in which he hit 31 boundaries complemented by 4 maximums.

Several experts have pointed out the flaws in the Test ranking system which has seen many up and downs in quick succession. Misbah-ul-Haq who expressed that being the No.1 Test nation is like winning the World Cup.

Meanwhile, the Indians were dominating the weak West Indian Test squad which was marred by several spats among the Windies players and the cricket board. India was at the top spot for a brief period and could have easily held on to the spot had they won the fourth Test.
