Ravichandran Ashwin on scoring his second century of the Test series against the West Indies

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has achieved a remarkable feat of becoming the first Indian to win six man-of-the-series awards in a Test career following his heroics in the Caribbean. He not only comprehensively beat Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag’s joint record of five awards, but also managed to do so with ease in a matter of just 36 Test matches. Speaking to BCCI.tv, a seemingly cautious Ashwin divulged on the ladder of success en route to the pinnacle of his career.

"I am 100 percent method, 80 percent skill, and 150 percent madness. There are a few things I can attribute my success to and one of the facts is that I think cricket all the time. People also think I am a bit of a cricket tragic. There is hardly anyone in the team who follows as much cricket as I do," said the mercurial off-spinner

Despite receiving applauds from the Indian Cricket fraternity, Ashwin still seems hungry for more and claims his best is yet to come. He based his claims on the quality he possesses and the feeling that the outcome to his provided inputs is not as expected, which is unsettling thus making him want more.

"One such thing is the belief on the side of the mental aspect. I have never settled down with what I have had. Every particular session, the trainer and physio say my workload is very very high. For me, one fine day I should be literally unplayable. If I bowl six balls in an over, the batsman should get beaten on all six deliveries. I think that will be the pinnacle point in my career. I don't know if I will be able to achieve it, but I have definitely embarked on the journey trying to at least achieve it. I am on the path to getting there and achieving all the things I am at the moment", Ashwin continued.

In the Test series, Ashwin scored a staggering 235 runs while contributing immensely in his primary role by picking 17 wickets. At the end of the tour, Ashwin stood as the fourth highest run-getter in the series, just a run behind KL Rahul. He also became only the fourth player in the world to score two centuries whilst also bagging two five-wicket hauls in a single Test series after Richie Benaud, Tony Greig, and Ian Botham.
