Shakib Al Hasan four-for demolishes Dhaka Dynamites

Shakib took four wickets in the match

Rangpur Riders defeated Dhaka Dynamites by 69 runs in the match 7 of Bangladesh Premier League 2015. Shakib Al Hasan was awarded Man-of-the-Match for his brilliant all-round performance.

It was the bowling that worked in favour of the Riders. Lendl Simmons started out well, but when the bowling of Shakib, Thisara Perera and Arafat Sunny came into play, it became clear that Dhaka wouldn’t be able to stop the Riders from bagging their second win in the tournament.

Dhaka’s chase was not overly difficult, but they could not accomplish it and hopes fell quickly. In the third over, Shakib expertly used an arm ball to run past Shamsur Rahman’s prod; and just two balls later, Nasir Jamshed fell victim to Soumya Sarkar.

Mosaddek Hussain aroused some hope, but Sunny stopped him just in time. Sunny was also the cause of Kumar Sangakkara's departure in the eleventh over who scored 29 runs off 28 balls. Sunny took 2 for 15 and ended his four overs early.

Ryan ten Doeschate was caught at the cover while Abul Hassan got caught at deep midwicket, both victims of Thisara’s bowling, and that too in consecutive overs. Thisara took three wickets in all. Shakib too did not stop and took a third wicket, Farhad Reza. He also sent off Nasir Hussain.

Rangpur would have had an embarrassing loss had it not been for Shakib in the last two overs, where he struck three boundaries. Thisara whacked boundaries, a respectable two fours and two sixes, but was sent off by Mustafizur Rehman in the 17th over.

All in all, Rangpur should have been able to close at a score that was nearer to 200. Their late collapse was responsible for the loss. In the 14th over, they were 122 for 2. A win could have been achieved from here without too much difficulty.

But Mohammad Mithun was given out leg-before to Abul for 34 off 22 balls, with three fours and two sixes. Things got even worse in the 18th over when their score stood at 150 for 6. They lost key players like Darren Sammy, Thisara and Al-Amin in this crucial period.

Simmons made his maiden BPL half-century. He hit five fours and three sixes.
