N Srinivasan could be replaced as ICC Chairman by BCCI Chief Shashank Manohar

Srinivasan’s decade long administrative stint could come to a screeching halt

The regime change within cricket’s hierarchy is set to continue as sources suggest, N Srinivasan will lose his International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman post to newly elected Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) President Shashank Manohar.

Apart from the major overhaul within the sport’s international governing body, former cricketers, Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri and L Sivaramakrishnan are also set to lose their BCCI contracts.

A senior BCCI official told Sportskeeda, “This particular change has been in the pipeline for a while now. N Srinivasan’s inability to grow the sport of cricket has prompted members within the ICC and BCCI have made a collective decision to bring about change. The ICC AGM on November 9, should initiate the transition process.”

On being asked, why the sudden hierarchy change, the official said, “Ever since the demise of Jagmohan Dalmiya, equations have heavily changed within the BCCI. Secretary Anurag Thakur has a lot more going for him. That being said, it was a common consensus that Srinivasan wasn’t doing much work as ICC Chairman. Mr Manohar’s pivotal move to offer central contracts to Indian women’s cricketers, also highlights how he wants to grow the sport.”

According to sources, a difference in opinion between BCCI and ICC officials, regarding the World T-20 Championship venues next year, could also be the reason.

The official stated, “Honestly, I feel it’s only a formality now. This could signal the end of a long tenure for Srinivasan.”

Shashank Manohar can only be selected into the ICC Chairman post, if all executive members vote for him. However, most sources confirm that, it is only a matter of time. If elected, the BCCI President will serve the term till the end of 2016.

The BCCI is also contemplating on returning to its previous policy of deciding the contractual lengths of selected commentators. They have also parted ways with their legal team and are looking for private firm to source out their matters.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council is also scheduled to meet on November 8, to narrow down on the bidding process for the new franchises.
