Suspect-action concerns continue for bowlers in the Dhaka Premier League

Mohammad Saifuddin is an all-rounder for the Bangladesh U-19 team

Mohammad Saifuddin, a Cricket Coaching School (CCS) player, is the fifth player to be reported for suspected bowling action in the Dhaka Premier League. It is a club level List A cricket tournament in Bangladesh played every year. It was recognised as a list A tournament starting from the year 2013-14.

Some of Saifuddin’s deliveries were a cause of concern for the umpires in the match against Prime Bank Cricket Club on Tuesday. In conversation with ESPN, CCS captain Rajin Saleh said that the match officials did not inform him about Saifuddin.

Previously four other bowlers, left-arm spinner Moinul Islam and offspinner Mustafizur Rahman of Gazi Group Cricketers, left-arm spinner Amit Kumar of Abahani and left-arm spinner Rejaul Karim of Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club were reported on April 22 for suspected action in the current season of the DPL.

The procedure requires the umpires to submit their report to the BCB's umpires committee after informing the teams, and it is then handed over to the bowlers review group for assessment. Surprisingly, the BCB has not formed a bowlers review group yet.

The reported bowlers can continue to play in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League as the review committee will assess them after the end of the tournament.

In the U-19 Cricket World Cup in January this year, Saifuddin was a successful all-rounder for Bangladesh. In the opening match against South Africa, he took 3 for 30 and made an unbeaten 17 with the bat. The 19-year-old averages 30.38 with the bat in first-class cricket, where he has made two fifties for Chittagong Division and taken 19 wickets at 35.63.
