Former Indian Olympian cyclist Suprabhat Chakrabarty, 86, has sadly passed away following a heart attack on Friday morning. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter, The Hindu reports

The five-time national champion Chakrabarty, fondly known as 'Khaja' in the cycling community, was one of the vital members of the national squad that took part in the first edition of Asian Games in 1951 in Delhi, 1952 Olympics in Helsinki and World Peace Race the same year.

He also represented India in various meets. The Calcutta Sports Journalists' Club stated in a release condoling the 86-year-old's demise.

He is the second cyclist to have passed away this month after Mirfield man Desmond Robinson also died peacefully aged 87 on December 10, leaving his wife of 62 years, Beryl, and daughters Linda, Denise and Jane and five grandchildren.
