3,000 cyclists participate in 'Pedal for Kashmir' race

The race being flagged off by DGP K Rajendra Kumar

A cycle race organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police on 31^st May, saw around 3,000 cyclists participate. The participants included international as well as national athletes. A large crowd gathered to witness the race which was flagged off by Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajendra Kumar.

The DGP, who praised the efforts of the organizing team, said, “The Organizing Committee headed by ADGP (Armed), SM Sahai had put in a great effort and ensured participation of national and international cyclists.”

Minister for Public Works Department, Floriculture, Gardens and Parks Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, commended the J&K Police for promoting sports in the state while speaking at the prize distribution ceremony.

He said, “Sports play pivotal role in building the physical and the mental health of youth. The Jammu and Kashmir Police has been promoting sports in the State, besides performing its professional duties.

Bukhari encouraged the Police to inspire the youth to take up sports and thanked the cyclists for their participation in the event.

He said, “The interest of the youth would encourage the J&K Police to conduct such events in future also. The department should organise various sports events in summer capital and other districts of the Valley during the summer season.

He continued by saying that events similar to these would help develop a sports culture in the state and explore the hidden talent of youth in all sports.
