Video: Legendary trainer Sir Henry Cecil has died aged 70

Tributes flood in for Sir Henry Cecil, the 10-time champion Flat trainer, who died at the age of 70 on Tuesday following a long battle with cancer.

Henry Cecil, who trained unbeaten superstar Frankel and was one of British horse racing’s greatest trainers in a career spanning nearly half-a-century, died on Tuesday following a long battle with cancer.

He was 70.

Cecil’s death was announced on the website of Warren Place Stables, where the Scotsman worked as a trainer for 44 years.

Jockey to Sir Henry Cecil since 2009, Tom Queally said he was a great trainer but an even greater person.

Tom Queally, The table jockey to Sir Henry Cecil since 2009:“He (Sir Henry Cecil) was very easy to ride for. He was a great trainer but an even greater person, you know. Everything he did was class. He was class, everything about him…he was just an absolutely different gear…like what every other trainer aspires to be like him and nobody will ever come close. So, everybody throughout the industry will feel his loss in some way or another because they don’t make people like him anymore.”

A minute’s silence was being held before each of the four meetings in Britain on Tuesday, and further tributes are expected next week at Royal Ascot where Cecil claimed a record 75 victories.
