Formula One engine builder Brian Hart passes away at the age of 77

Formula One engine builder Brian Hart has died at the age of 77.

Hart started off his career in motorsport as a driver when he stepped into the driving seat in 1172cc Clubmans formula. He dominated the category before switching to single-seater racing, emerging as a winner in Formula Junior, F2 and F3 categories.

His attention would then turn to engine preparation and he served as an apprentice with the Da Havilland Aircraft Company before moving to Cosworth.

Hart formed the Brian Hart Ltd in 1969 which was based in Essex. The company specialized in servicing of FVA engines and developed the Ford BDA power plant.

He also supplied engines to Formula One teams like RAM, Spirit and Jordan with the best finish of his engines being second position in the Monaco Grand Prix of 1984 with Ayrton Senna as the driver.
