Lewis Hamilton recently poked fun at his Mercedes teammate George Russell for spending more time with his trainer despite a significant age gap between the two.

The seven-time world champion will turn 40 next year ahead of a new chapter with Ferrari after departing from Mercedes, where he has raced for the past 12 years. Despite being one of the oldest drivers, the Brit pointed out that he has no plans of racing anytime soon.

While speaking to the media ahead of the 2024 Chinese GP, Lewis Hamilton poked fun at the 26-year-old George Russell for spending too much time with his trainer. He said:

"I'm nearing 40 years old, I feel young still. I think he’s [George] got more problems physically than I do today.”

The comment left everyone in splits as Russell jokingly replied:

“Do I?”

To which Hamilton concluded:

“I know you’re spending more time with your physio than I am.”

Speaking to the media, including Sportskeeda, Lewis Hamilton mentioned that he never envisioned himself racing in his 40s but he is looking forward to following Fernando Alonso's route, adding:

"I am not the oldest driver here. I am going to be racing for quite some time still so it is good [Alonso] is still around. Fernando is one of the best drivers we've had in the sport so for him to continue to be here and continue to have the output he's had just shows what is possible.
"And shows the new era of athletes, what the human body can do and continue to do if you nurture it. I never thought I would be racing into my 40s. I'm pretty sure I said I wouldn't. I don't feel 40. I generally feel great."

Lewis Hamilton defends his switch to Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton stated that he did not need 'vindication' for his decision to race for the Scuderia next season despite struggling in his first four races.

He said to Sportskeeda:

"Well, I don't feel like I need my decision vindicating. I think I know what's right for me, and that hasn't changed since the moment that I made the decision."

The seven-time world champion would hope to put on a strong showing at the Shanghai International Circuit, where he holds the record for most wins with six. He would be eager to score some good points, having only bagged a measly 10 so far.
