Former F1 driver Romain Grosjean recently confirmed that Mercedes' promise to let him have a private test session will still happen.

After Grosjean suffered a near-fatal accident in the 2020 F1 Bahrain GP in which his hands were severely burned, the Silver Arrows extended the driver a heartwarming opportunity, promising to host him in a private test at the Paul Ricard circuit once he recovers.

However, this private test was postponed due to the FIA tightening the testing rules and Grosjean starting his IndyCar career.

Speaking to RacingNews365, however, Grosjean claimed that Mercedes' promise still stands, but he is unable to make time for the private test but due to his tight schedule of races in 2024. Grosjean said he had a total of 30 races to compete in, which maked it extremely difficult to pick a slot for the Mercedes test. He said:

“We haven't found the time yet, it's my fault. It's not simple. I'm heading for 30 race weekends next year. You complain that there are 24 in Formula 1. I'm going to have 18 in IndyCar, 7 in Endurance and 5 with CANAL+. So it's not easy to add a test to that."

Romain Grosjean felt that he himself was delaying the opportunity to sit in an F1 car once again. However, he claims that whenever he meets Toto Wolff, the latter assures him that the promise of the test still stands. He added:

"I have to say, very selfishly, that I'm trying to delay the moment when I can really test a new-generation single-seater. But yes, I still want to do it and every time I see Toto he always confirms that it's going to happen."

Mercedes team boss believes Lewis Hamilton can still fight for World Championship

Toto Wolff is confident that if Mercedes develops a decent car capable of winning a championship, Lewis Hamilton will be able to push the car and challenge Red Bull and Max Verstappen for the title. According to the Austrian, the seven-time world champion still has the fire in him to clinch another title before retiring. The Mercedes CEO said (via F1.com):

"If we’re able to give him a car, then he would be fighting for a World Championship, I have no doubt."

Lewis Hamilton has not won a World Championship since 2022. He currently has the same number of titles as Michael Schumacher and will be trying to one-up the legendary German driver before retiring from the sport.
