Nico Rosberg believes Lewis Hamilton’s spin during the dying moments of qualifying cost him the chance of taking pole position for today’s Austrian Grand Prix.
Coming into qualifying, it was expected that the fight for pole position would be restricted to the two Mercedes drivers. However, both Hamilton and Rosberg ran into trouble, handing Williams their first front row lockout since 2003. Lewis Hamilton, whose first run was disallowed for extending the track limits, spun at turn two, leaving him with little time to pass the chequered flag and start a fresh flying lap. In the process, Hamilton inadvertently ruined Nico Rosberg’s final shot at pole.“I also lost out on that last lap because of Lewis spinning in front in the corner so I couldn't do that lap, because you have to lift off two tenths of a second, and doing that then to do at least two tenths [better] you have to do three tenths so it wouldn't have been possible to improve on my lap time so I backed out,” Rosberg told reports after the session."That definitely cost me today, but that's the way it is. But still, third place is okay. It's okay to start from there tomorrow, I had a quick car in the race [simulations]."Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton had no explanation as to why he spun at such a crucial moment which puts him in ninth place on the grid.“I can’t really [explain what happen]. I spun; hit the brakes and just locked the rears so not really sure. I have to look at the data to see exactly what happened.”The result ended Mercedes's seven-race pole streak.
