Football teams have opted to have some rather weird names.

The world of sport has seen some bizarre individual names and team names for many years now, so it shouldn’t be of any surprise to anyone that this daftness extends into the game of football as well.

Let’s have a look at 10 Football teams which have been hilariously named, along with a small description about them.

Dangerous Darkies FC

The club, based in Nelspruit (South Africa), was founded in 1991 and played for only two seasons in the National Soccer League before merging with Witbank Aces to form Mpumalanga Black Aces FC, who currently play in the Premier Soccer League.

In their second season, they only won a single game of the 42 played, so the merger was an inevitable one.

Double Flower FA

The team’s name was changed from Lai Sun Double Flower to Instant Dict in 1991 after the ownership was loaned to an electronics manufacturing company, however they ended up reverting the name back to the original one after a decade.

The team saw more success as Instant Dict, winning the domestic title twice and finishing as runners-up thrice. During this time, they also appeared twice in the Asian Club Championship and Asian Cup Winners. They also won the Viceroy Cup once and Hong Kong FA Cup thrice.

Actually the team hasn’t won any trophies named Double Flower FA. They won the Viceroy and FA Cup as Lai Sun Double Flower.

Semen Padang FC

The club is based in Indarung, Padang (Indonesia), was founded in 1980 and plays in the Indonesian Super League. The club takes its name from the owner P.T. Semen Padang, the oldest cement company in Indonesia.

Sounds like an eastern curry dish, which I guess none of us would like to have.

They were crowned the domestic league champions in 2012 and played against two Indian clubs in the AFC Cup 2013. In the group stage, they won against Churchill Brothers 5-3 on aggregate but lost to East Bengal in the quarterfinals 2-1 on aggregate.

Grasshopper Club Zurich

Based out of Zurich in Switzerland, the football club, founded in 1886, is hands-down the best team in the Swiss Super League with 27 domestic titles to their name and 19 Swiss Cups.

They are undoubtedly a well-known team due to numerous appearances in Champions League and UEFA cup over the years, which have taken place due to their successful domestic record.

The current England coach Roy Hodgson had coached the Grasshoppers for a season in 1999, guiding them to a fourth place finish before a move to Danish side Copenhagen.

Young Boys

Young Boys, based out of Bern, was founded in 1898 by four students at the University of Bern.

The students came up with the team name when they hosted a football match between FC Bern and FC Old Boys Basel, taking inspiration from the opposition team while deciding on the name.

The Swiss club are eleven-time winners of the Super League and recently started playing in the hilariously-named Wankdorf stadium, which only adds to the oddity of the whole situation.

FL Fart

FL Fart, otherwise known as Fotballaget Fart, is a Norwegian Club that was founded in 1917.

The name of their home ground is aptly named the Fartbana and just to be fair to the Norwegians, the name means ‘football team speed’ in their language.

The club’s more notable team is its women’s side, who currently ply their trade in the First Division, which is the second-tier of Norwegian Football.

Not only that, they’re the first football team to have a battle named after them, A division of the Bolivian Army, largely containing enlisted members of the club played a vital part in a fight against the Paraguayan attack in 1932-35, also known as the Chaco War. Though the Bolivian history books refer it to as Batalla de Cañada Strongest.

The only titles they’ve won are with the name Dinamo Bender, playing in Divizia B in 2000-01 and Divizia A in 2004-05.

Botswana Meat Commission FC

It is a well-known fact that Botswana is one of the top exporters of beef so the meat commission can surely afford to play a team in the top tier of the commercial league.

Other funny-named teams that play in the lower rungs are Green Lovers, Miscellaneous FC, Prisons XI, Killer Giants, and Modipane United.
