23 footballers attended an AFC C license coaching course in Goa back in June with 19 current players participating. 12 of those 19 have passed on their first attempt.

Six of those 12 players will be featuring in the inaugural season of the ISL including Gouramangi Singh (Chennai), Ishfaq Ahmed (Kerala Blasters) and Mehrajuddin Wadoo (FC Pune City).

Former player Noel Wilson has also passed while the trio of Shanmugam Venkatesh , Subhasish Roy Choudhury and Jatin Bisht will have to reappear for their theory exams.

The course was an initiative from FPAI (Football Players Association of India) and was conducted at the Duler Stadium in Mapusa, Goa from June 9-21 with India goalkeeping coach Marcus Pacheco being the instructor.

It is quite common for players’ associations around the world to help current players in getting coaching education during the season break and FPAI are also trying to achieve something similar so that the players can prepare early for life after retirement.

Back in the summer of 2012, the FPAI had arranged for the participation of Gouramangi and Alvito D’Cunha in attending the level 2 coaching license course conducted by the English PFA.

List of candidates who have passed

Felix D’Souza (Dempo), Mahesh Gawli (Dempo), Samir Naik (Dempo), Mehrajuddin Wadoo (FC Pune City), Gouramangi Singh Moirangthem (Chennai), Noel Wilson (former player), Clifford Miranda (Dempo), Steven Dias (Delhi Dynamos), Arata Izumi (Pune FC), Sushant Matthew (Kerala Blasters), Ishfaq Ahmed (Kerala Blasters), Manish Maithani (FC Pune City), Beevan De’Mello (Sporting Clube de Goa)
