The Rossoneri have been big spenders in Italy with some of the biggest stars playing at the famous San Siro.

AC Milan is one of the biggest and most followed clubs in the world thanks to the numerous trophies the Diavolo have won throughout their illustrious history.

The Rossoneri have also regularly attracted some of the biggest stars in football - from Ancelotti to Kaka to David Beckham, many footballing greats have worn the famous Red and Black of AC Milan.

Milan saw a decline in their fortunes since last winning the Scudetto in 2011 but have started their journey back to the top since Chinese businessman Li Yonghong took over the reigns in the summer of 2017.

Despite being from Italy, where clubs avoid spending a large sum of money on players, the San Siro giants have shelled out late sums of cash - multiple times - to attract their biggest signings.


#5 Alessandro Nesta

The iconic left-back signed for AC Milan back in 2002 for a whopping €31 million (as reported by the BBC) from Lazio - as the side from Rome - was going through a financial crisis and had to sell some of their best players. Nesta became an integral part of Milan's dominant side under Carlo Ancelotti.

He formed a formidable defensive line for the Rossoneri playing alongside Paolo Maldini, Cafu, Jaap Stam, Alessandro Costacurta during his very long stay at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

The Italy international stayed witht the San Siro outfit for a decade, making 326 appearances for the club and winning a total of 10 trophies during his Milan days - including two Champions League titles.

#4 Filippo Inzaghi

Inzaghi was signed for Milan from Juventus and he didn't disappoint, etching his name in the history books.

Filippo Inzaghi signed for the Diavolo from Juventus in 2001 for a reported fee of €37 million. The former Italy international had a slow start to life in Milan as his first season was marked with injuries - making just 20 appearances.

However, things turned around in his second season as he formed a deadly partnership with Andriy Shevchenko.

Inzaghi overcame knee problems and ended the season with 12 goals in 22 appearances during the '04/05 campaign.

Pippo finished his career at the San Siro in 2012 at the age of 39 - making 300 appearances for the club and scoring 126 goals for the Red and Black. He won eight major honors with the club.

Inzaghi returned as a manager in 2014 but only lasted a year as the club finished tenth in the league under his guidance.

Andre Silva was brought in from Porto, but has so far failed to replicate those performances in the Serie A.

Andre Silva arrived at the San Siro with huge expectations from Portuguese giants FC Porto. Milan shelled out a whopping €38 million on the 22-year-old (as reported by SkySports) who had an impressive season at Porto netting 16 goals in 32 appearances.

The Portuguese was dubbed as the next Ronaldo and the Real Madrid talisman himself showered praise on the youngster. Things have not gone according to plan though, as he is yet to settle at the San Siro - having failed to score a single goal for the Rossoneri.

Silva is being linked with a move away from Milan but the club has denied any and all approaches for the star.

#2 Leonardo Bonucci

The Milan skipper has managed to find form - after a slow start to life at the San Siro .

Leonardo Bonucci made a controversial switch to AC Milan from Juventus at the start of the 2017/18 campaign after falling out with Massimiliano Allegri and was instantly made club captain by Vincenzo Montella.

Leo arrived at Milan with the label of being the world's best defender, so the transfer came as a shock when the Bianconeri allowed him to join the Rossoneri for what was most-definitely a bargain.

The Italy international arrived for a reported fee of €42 million and had a rocky start at the club failing to live up to his former self.

The 30-year-old, however, turned things around after Gennaro Gatusso took over the reigns from Montella. The Milan skipper has formed a formidable partnership with Alessio Romagnoli, and the duo have kept things quiet for Gigio Donnarumma at the heart of the Diavolo defence.

Rui Costa was signed by Milan after helping Fiorentina to three Serie A titles during his time with the Viola.

Rui Costa became the most expensive signing for AC Milan when he signed from Fiorentina at the start of the 2001 season. Fatih Terim brought the player to the Rossoneri when he joined the club, paying a mammoth €44 million for the Portuguese who didn't disappoint - helping Milan win the Champions League in 2002/03.

Costa also went on to win a Serie A title, a Coppa Italia, a Supercoppa Italiana and one UEFA Super Cup with the Italian giants, before Kaka replaced him as a starter in the team - as the Brazilian became the world's best player under Carlo Ancelotti.
