Former Mumbai City FC star Andre Moritz hits out at manager Nicolas Anelka

Brazilian Andre Moritz parted ways with Mumbai City after an alleged altercation with Anelka

Mumbai City FC crashed out of semi-final contention with yet another listless display in a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Chennaiyin FC at the Marina Arena in Chennai yesterday. The defeat ended Mumbai City FC’s slight hopes of making it to the semi-finals of the Hero Indian Super League as Mumbai City FC sat seventh in the table with thirteen points from thirteen games.

It looked very positive for Mumbai City FC at the end of October when they went on a three-game winning run, but since have failed to register a win and that has seen them campaign derail. Mumbai City FC parted ways with Assistant Coach Oscar Bruzon in between hat period and Mumbai City FC’s slide has corresponded with the Spaniard’s departure.

Bruzon was the second high-profile departure from Mumbai City FC after Andre Moritz left the club after a spat with manager Nicolas Anelka. The Brazilian midfielder who scored a hat-trick for Mumbai City FC last season took to Twitter after Mumbai City FC’s loss to Chennaiyin FC yesterday and lashed out at Nicolas Anelka asking him to man up to his own problems than pointing fingers at others.

Moritz didn’t stop there and tweeted again two hours later wanting to know the guilty party was after yesterday’s loss.

Mumbai City FC’s dismal show does raise questions over Nicolas Anelka’s management of the team and whether his constant criticism of his players has led to a series of pale performances from Mumbai’s side.

Nicolas Anelka had criticized Sunil Chhetri after Mumbai City’s loss against NorthEast United recently and had also stated that Mumbai City FCdidn’t have a great team as people thought. Nicolas Anelka’s comments about him going for other players had he given a chance to do so, shows his lack of trust in the team.

But sadly the criticism has come at such a late stage in the season that you wonder why Nicolas Anelka remained in the job or even take up the role of the manager in the first place.

Andre Moritz’s lashing out might be justified considering how things have horribly gone wrong for Mumbai City FC this season.
