Mesut Ozil (R) believes Arsenal can now win the Premier League next season

Arsenal’s German star, Mesut Ozil is hopeful of winning the Premier League and go further in the Champions League next season. The Gunners failed to mount a serious challenge in the EPL in 2014/15 and Ozil feels it was down to the injury problems which plagued the side throughout the season.

“We had bad luck with injuries this season but next season we can win the Premier League and go further in the Champions League,” Özil said in an interview with the German magazine Kicker.

Arsenal finished 12 points behind Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea in the EPL but they were able to retain the FA Cup. In doing so, they became the most successful team in the history of FA Cup with 12 titles, one ahead of Manchester United.

2014/15 was the hardest season of my career: Ozil

Ozil himself had missed three months of football due to a knee ligament injury he suffered October. He admits that three-month long lay off was very hard on him and feels that this season was the hardest one of his career.

"It was a very long season. I guess it was the hardest in my career," he said. "The first time in my life I had to deal with a serious injury. I feel it was a consequence of playing a lot games without a break over years.

"I was happy with the second half of the season. I wanted to show everybody that I'm back. Winning the FA Cup means it was a successful year. I'm proud of that win.

‘I am more confident under Arsene Wenger’

Ozil also hanked the Arsene Wenger and Arsenal fans for their continued support, and it helped him to regain his confidence after the injury.

"My best moment [of the season] was the first game back after my injury against Stoke City. The fans cheered a lot when I was brought on. That was a brilliant feeling and helped me a lot. From then on I understood: no matter what happened, the club and the fans are always with me.“

"But the most important thing is the opinion of my coach. I have a lot more self-confidence when he is with me. I always had that feeling with Arsene Wenger.”
