Javier Mascherano: Fancying a return to England?

Former Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has intimated a return to the Premier League.

Barcelona lock horns with Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid on Saturday night to determine the 2013/14 La Liga champions.

In a press interview leading up to the title clash, Mascherano alluded to the prospect of leaving the Catalan club at the end of the season, writes the Express, fueling speculation that Barcelona are set for a major overhaul in the upcoming transfer window.

“We gave everything we had against Elche,” Mascherano said.

“They are a team that is fighting hard to avoid relegation.

“We now hope to win the Liga title at home against Atletico. It will all be decided next week.

“It could be the last game for Barcelona for some of us.”

While he didn’t explicitly state his intentions to leave, these quotes have reportedly put Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal on alert, as they hope to steal a march on their rivals if the Argentinian is indeed planning a move away.

Mascherano, who has recently been linked with Man United, has been a mainstay in Barcelona’s central defence this season, having made 27 appearances.
