Aston Villa cancel Goal of the Month competition for October after scoring no goals

Andreas Weimann broke Aston Villa’s goal-scoring duck against Tottenham last Sunday

Aston Villa, as is the norm in most Premier League clubs, run a Goal of the Month competition for their players, but they were compelled to cancel the competition for the month of October, having not scored a single goal during the month.

Villa went on a run of games where they didn’t register even a single goal, lasting all the way from September 13 till November 2, before Andreas Weimann finally broke the goal-scoring duck by scoring against Tottenham, albeit in a 2-1 defeat at Villa Park, last Sunday.

According to the Daily Mirror, Villa’s official website were forced to do away with the competition for the month as a result.

Villa the Latest Butt of All Jokes

Villa became the butt of jokes during this long wait, with Cristiano Ronaldo alone scoring 20 goals and Leeds & Watford having 5 managers in this time being just some of the amusing stats being bandied about.

The one goal, however, is sure to bring back some belief and hope at Villa Park. On the other hand, it would have been hilarious if a goalmouth scramble had to be adjudged as the best goal of the month.
