Barack Obama met the Pope but couldn't meet Lionel Messi

POTUS Barack Obama was unable to meet Lionel Messi at Argentina

President of the United States and possibly the most powerful man in the world, Barack Obama, was unable to set up a meeting with Argentine superstar Lionel Messi while at Argentina.

POTUS was called to speak to the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative Town Hall in Buenos Aires, Argentina. While there, he was able to meet his holiness the Pope but when his daughters, Sasha and Malia, asked if they could meet the Barcelona superstar, he was unable to arrange it.

"I also wanted to bring my daughters here, so they could see the beauty and the vibrancy of this city," he told the audience. "They've already met one famous Argentinean – His Holiness Pope Francis. Now they want to meet [Lionel] Messi, but I could not arrange that."

Messi is currently with the Argentine national team and having just beaten Chile in Santiago last night, the team are preparing to face Bolivia in the final qualifying game of this break at Cordoba, Argentina – 647 kilometers from where Barack Obama was giving his talk.

Argentina exact revenge by beating Chile 2-1 at Santiago

Goals from Gabriel Mercado and Angel di Maria were enough to ensure Argentina started their two-games of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers on the front foot. Chile started the game brightly and dominated most of the possession in the first half of the first half during which Gutiérrez scored for the home side.

A few minutes later – as Argentina began to grow into the game – Angel di Maria scored past Claudio Bravo with an incredible curler into the top left corner giving Argentina the equaliser. This was followed by some more lovely play as Lionel Messi secured the assist for a perfect lob to release River Plate defender Mercado through on goal to give Argentina the lead.
