Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has revealed that the club had doubts over the signing of striker Luis Suarez. The La Liga club signed the Uruguayan from Liverpool in the summer after a sensational season, where Suarez scored 31 goals in the Premier League.

Barcelona parted with £75 million for Suarez at the start of the season despite the 28-year-old suspended from football till the end of October for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup.

The Barcelona coach said that the initial doubts over Suarez have been dispelled after his “meteoric” adaptation to the league.

Enrique admitted, “Suarez gave us a few doubts at first. We can only speak in the highest terms of his thought process and willingness from the word go.”

He said that no matter how talented a player is, there is always a doubt if the new signing will be able to adjust to the team and his teammates.

"The uncertainty you have when you sign a player is just that, even if he is world-class,” Enrique said.

“You have to get used to a team, your teammates, the city. It can be difficult. His adaptation has been meteoric.”

The former Kop darling scored two goals in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain to give Barcelona a crucial 3-1 win away from home.

Suarez has scored 19 goals in 29 matches with his new club while providing ample assists for Lionel Messi and Neymar to help the Catalans to the summit of La Liga, where they lead rivals Real Madrid by 2 points.
