Barcelona defender Mascherano confirms Lionel Messi is going nowhere

Javier Mascherano of FC Barcelona has insisted that his team mate Lionel Messi isn’t considering a move away from Spain and is committed to his present club.

Earlier this week, the Argentine forward had dropped a hint that he could be heading out of Catalunya at the end of this season, after he stated that it is impossible for him to predict what his future will be as the cycle of football keeps on changing. But he also claimed that if it was up to him, he would finish his career in the Camp Nou.

However, Mascherano has stressed that the four-time Ballon d’Or winner is fine and there is no need for the supporters to panic.

“Messi didn't say anything weird, he said what all football players are thinking,” the former Liverpool man said during a press conference.

"He is fine and wants to keep winning with Barca. As I know Leo, I think he's experiencing a great time, not only in football but also in his private life.”

Since Luis Enrique’s appointment as Barcelona manager, Messi has been utilised in a deeper playmaking role which has allowed him to create a lot of chances for the team. However, according to his usual standards, there has been a reduction in consistency and the numbers in front of goal have decreased.

But Mascherano thinks its ridiculous to say that Messi has been unhappy with his new role blaming the media for creating such fuss.

"Can you be certain that Leo has problems with Barca? Where did you read it? I didn't see anything about it,” he added.

"I don't need to convince you, it is the truth. I have always heard from Leo a lot of thankfulness towards Barcelona. He’s one of the greatest players to have ever played the game and has always been professional.”

Barcelona resume their La Liga campaign against Sevilla at home this Sunday.
