Benfica beat Gil Vicente 1-0 in Portuguese League

Lisbon, Dec 22 (IANS) SL Benfica beat Gil Vicente 1-0 in the 14th round of the Portuguese League at Luz Stadium here.

Argentine midfielder Nicolas Gaitan scored the winner in the 30th minute Sunday, reports Xinhua.

Benfica now stand at the top of the league with 37 points, six points more than FC Porto. Winless Gil Vicente are at the bottom of the table with six points.

Also Sunday, Nacional were defeated 0-1 by Sporting Lisbon, Academica drew 1-1 with FC Penafiel, Moreirense FC beat Boavista FC 1-0 and FC Arouca beat CS Maritimo 1-0.
