Subroto Cup: BK Hacken beat East Bengal in pulsating encounter

Joel Mumbango scored a brace to lead BK Hacken past East Bengal

Reigning Gothia Cup champions BK Hacken scraped past East Bengal Football Club 2-1 in an exciting Group H clash of the 56th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament at Delhi’s Ambedkar Stadium here today.

In the other match played at the same venue, Indonesia’s Daftar Nama Kontingen routed Goa’s Government Higher Secondary School 7-0 in Group F. At the NWC ground, the match between IPSC and Tata Football Academy School ended in a 3-3 draw in Group E, while Haryana’s Delhi Public School (Panipat) eased past the team from Lakshadweep 3-0.

Swedish Dominance

The Scandanavian boys were expected to do well against an Indian side and the BK Hacken did not disappoint. Playing a tight game, they kept East Bengal FC from harm’s way for most part of the match. They went up in the 36th minute when Joel Mumbango found the net.

After the breather, Joel hit the target again within 10 minutes to add to their lead. However, their goal fell when Mohammad Imran Mondal slotted in a consolation in the 50th minute.

Indonesia has it easy

The team from Jakarta opened their account as early as in the fourth minute and continued pressing till as late as the 68th minute - both these goals were struck by P. Risdianto—while M. Hambali T (37th minute) scored once even as substitutes Rizky Aprillia and Egy Maulana scored a brace each to complete the rout.

Amongst other matches, it was an interesting duel between IPSC(combined XI of different public schools in India) and TFAS that kept everyone on tenterhooks. TFAS took the lead in the second minute when Swarnim scored. But they could not keep it for more than 16 minutes as Aayush Steve restored parity in the 18th minute even as Mayank Rochlani put them in lead in the 33rd minute.

After change of ends, TAFS boys played a very tight game and made it 2-2 when Rishab scored in the within a minute of resumption. Then Aayush Steve sealed his brace in the 68th minute but even before they could culminate their celebrations, Dheeraj found the target during injury time to seal the result.

Haryana meanwhile had it easy against the Lakshadweep outfit in a tie which proved to be a mismatch. Close to the end of first half, Haryana scored the opener and soon after the breather they added two more through Gourak Kumar and Sourabh Rawal to complete the rout.
