Reports: Borussia Dortmund offer Marco Reus salary of upto €6 million in exchange for removal of buyout clause

Marco Reus has reportedly been offered a pay hike to remove his release clause

Reports suggest that Borussia Dortmund have offered to increase Marco Reus’ salary to about €6 million annually if he agrees to remove the release clause from his contract.

The German winger’s release clause has been one of the most discussed topics recently in Germany, with Karl Heinz Rummenigge, Bayern Munich’s CEO suggesting that it would take only €25 million, instead of the earlier estimated €35 million to meet Reus’ release clause.

The highly talented Reus, who missed the World Cup in Brazil due to a ligament injury, will reportedly see his salary rise from about €4.5 million to €6 million.

He is thought to be unsure regarding the proposed removal of the release clause, but has been encouraged by club officials to remain at the club for the long term and make himself a legend.

"We want to work with Marco in the long term", club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said. "He has the unique opportunity with us to acquire a status like Uwe Seeler at Hamburg or Franz Beckenbauer at Bayern Munich. He can become a legend."

Teams from across Europe are said to be interested in his signature, with Manchester United, Barcelona and Liverpool all repeatedly linked with the 25 year old.
