Here, we will look in to the Brazilian national football team’s records. Brazil is one of the front runners to this year’s Fifa World Cup 2014. As each World cup comes by every four years, Brazil is one of the first names that comes up in everybody’s minds as the favourites to win the prestigious trophy. They have been a member of FIFA since 1923 and has since become the most successful team in FIFA World Cup history.

It boasts some of the best players in the world over the years as the likes of Pele, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka, and many other greats have graced their teams over the years. We look at some of the records created by the Brazilian National Team.

  1. Brazil is the most successful national football team in the history of the FIFA World Cup, with five championships: 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002.
  2. They are also the most successful team in the FIFA Confederations cup winning it four times in 1997, 2005, 2009, and 2013. They are also the current holders of the trophy.
  3. Brazil is the only national team to have played in all FIFA World Cup editions .
  4. Brazil have also qualified for every FIFA World Cup without the need for playoffs.
  5. Brazil national football team has the all-time highest average Football Elo Ranking in the world with 2012.9 points.
  6. They share with Spain a record of 35 consecutive official matches undefeated
  7. Brazil won a total of 72 official international titles comprising of professional and grassroots level selections, and is a world record.
  8. It’s achievements have led CONMEBOL to consider it as The most glorious and successful of all national teams from South America and the World.
  9. Brazil is the only team to have won the world cup in four different continents: once in Europe (1958 Sweden), once in South America (1962 Chile), twice in North America (1970 Mexico and 1994 United States) and once in Asia (2002 Korea/Japan).
  10. The Brazil team of 1970 is considered to be one of the best football teams ever known.

  3. Pele is the youngest player to have played for Brazil after wearing the Brazil jersey for the first time when he was 16 years old and 257 days in 1957.
  4. The oldest player who played for Brazil is Djalma Santos who played when he was 39 years old and 102 days back in 1968.
  5. On 10th April 1949, Brazil defeated Bolivia 10-1 which is their biggest victory till date.
  6. In the Maracana stadium, Brazil has played the most number of matches – 102.

As the world cup is about to begin, it remains to be seen whether this Brazilian line up led by the likes of world class players like Thiago Silva and Neymar would rise up to the task and lift the FIFA World Cup for an unprecedented sixth time.
