Ronaldo will come out of retirement to play for Fort Lauderdale Strikers

Former Real Madrid striker Ronaldo Nazario de Lima confirmed that he will be coming out of retirement to play for American side Fort Lauderdale Strikers. The Brazilian will aim to be back and playing by the time the playoffs come by the end of the season, as had been reported earlier.

Ronaldo who is 38 years old now has not played any professional football for four years. The striker is currently overweight and out of form, but is undergoing training in an attempt to get back in shape.

He had already announced earlier this year that he would be helping the club, and did so by buying a stake in them, but he says that it would be a while before he is fit enough to play again and insists that the regular season would be over before he can be an addition to the team.

“It’s going to happen, I have already said so. But it’s going to be a bit later, in the playoffs,” was what Ronaldo had to say. Fort Lauderdale Strikers, located in Florida were formerly known as Miami FC, and play in the National American Soccer League (NASL).

“For now, we are organising it all, but I am going to have a [weight] goal,” added the Brazilian.

Ronaldo, who had a star-studded career, played for teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan. Before his retirement, the Brazilian last played for Brazilian side Corinthians. Ronaldo has two Ballon d’Ors, two World Cup winners medals and three FIFA World Player of the Year medals in his trophy cabinet, among other honours.
