Brendan Rodgers denies Liverpool interest in Memphis Depay

Memphis Depay confirmed his move from Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven to Manchester United yesterday. The clubs have reportedly agreed on a fee in the region of £22m.

PSV technical director Marcel Brands earlier said that Liverpool were also interested in the Dutch winger but he preferred the move to Manchester United.

"Liverpool contacted us and talked with the player. They were also one of the clubs interested but at the end Memphis had the final decision and he chose Manchester United," Brands said.

However, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has denied that the Reds were ever interested in Depay.

Rodgers said, "It wasn't something we were ever interested in. We already have four wingers at the club and have other priorities.

"He's obviously a very talented young player but we have Raheem Sterling, Jordan Ibe, Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic in those positions. We're well covered, especially on the left-hand side."

Rodgers could be referring to Liverpool's misfiring strikers this season as he has previously also reiterated their need for a proven goalscorer.
