Reports: Cameroon squad refuse to board flight to Brazil due to disagreement over bonuses

The Cameroon squad refused to board the flight to Brazil

The Cameroon squad reportedly refused to board the flight to Brazil scheduled on Sunday morning to take part in the upcoming FIFA World Cup due to a bonuses row as reported by L’Equipe.

The tensions between the Cameroon players and the federation over the payment of their bonuses has been long-drawn. The players suspended a strike on 23rd May to reach upon an agreement, but the officials never came on board for any discussions.

The latest offer by the governement was that the players would receive six per cent of the FIFA bonus for the first round, 20 per cent for the second round, 30 per cent for quarter-finals, 40 per cent for the semi-finals, and 50 per cent for either the final or the third-place play-off.

With the officials not heeding any requests made by the Cameroon players, Samuel Eto’o and the rest of the team have decided not to board the flight to Brazil.

This comes as the latest development in an issue which has carried on for quite some time, as earlier the Cameroon players had refused to take the national flag from the President in their pre-tournament ceremony, due to which the coach Volker Finke stepped in so as to avoid any public embarassment.

Cameroon is placed in a tough group consisting of World Cup hosts Brazil, Mexico and Croatia and they begin their campaign against Mexico in Natal on 13th June 2014.
