Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov managed to grab the headlines after scoring for his side in a 2-1 win against fellow counterparts Coventry City in a U18 fixture, and it wasn’t your usually unusual goalkeeper goals from a set piece.

The 18-year-old’s goal kick from inside his box flew away exactly on the opposite side of the pitch as the ball went on and bounced perfectly over an amazed and out-of-position Coventry City goalkeeper.

Asmir Begovic’s goal for Stoke City back in 2013 against Sunderland just after 13 seconds after the kick-off in a Premier League tie was measured at having traveled 91.9m or 301 feet and 6 inches that saw the goalie earn a place in the latest edition of the record book’s.

While there is nothing new and incredible in a goalie scoring from an open play, these relatively less planned goals could go on by a long way, entering into the books of record.

Olly Groome, a member of Charlton Athletic’s media team later confirmed on Monday that precise confirming the distance of the Bulgarian’s goal, the verification might take up to 12 weeks to let anyone know if the teenager has managed to break Begovic’s record.

On an interesting note, Coventry City’s training pitch, that hosted the U18’s fixture is of an equal length of the pitch in Britannia, used by Stoke. The Sky Blues from South East London are hence very much optimistic about their keeper making his way into the Guinness Book of Records for 2016.
