Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates against Elche

Cristiano Ronaldo has equalled a long-standing La Liga record in the wake of his fantastic start to the season. His 10 goals within the first six games of the season equals the records set by Kubala in 1953 and later equalled by Pahiño in 1954.

What makes Ronaldo’s achievement even more fantastic is that he didn’t feature in the second gameweek against Real Sociedad due to an injury. Rival Leo Messi scored 50 goals in 2011-12 and Ronaldo, on current form looks set to beat that record.

Interestingly neither Kubala nor Pahiño went on to win the Golden Boot or the Pichichi that year with Zarra and Di Stefano winning it respectively in 1953 and 1954.

Pahiño, though a Real Madrid player achieved the record at Deportivo while Kubala was a Barcelona star making Ronaldo the first Real Madrid player to achieve this feat.

The Portuguese superstar scored a brace against Sevilla in the Uefa Super Cup in Cardiff as well as a goal against Basel in the Champions League.

He has 8 goals in his last 3 La Liga games.
