Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has backed former Madrid manager Jose Mourinho to go and get United back on track and take them to the top once again. Manchester United have sacked Louis van Gaal and Mourinho is set to be unveiled as the new manager on Thursday if reports from DailyMail are to be believed.

The 31-year-old winger enjoyed a trophy-laden spell in his six years with the Red Devils, winning three Premier League titles, an FA Cup trophy, a Champions League title and two League Cup titles, also taking home his first ever Ballon d’Or trophy.

Speaking to Spanish programme ‘Jugones’ he was quoted by the Sun as saying, “He's already signed hasn't he? I think it's good. If it's something United wanted, I think it's good.”

“I hope Manchester United get back to being what they were because it's an impressive club but in the last years they lacked an identity a bit. And it hurts me seeing United like that because it's a club I carry in my heart. I wish Mourinho can restore them back to the top.”

Ronaldo played under ‘The Special One’ for three years in the Spanish Capital and did enjoy some success, winning a Copa Del Rey, a Spanish Supercup and a La Liga, ending Barcelona’s dominance. But despite playing some of his best football, he enjoyed a frosty relationship with the manager as Mourinho left the team in turmoil at the end of 2013.

Mourinho reportedly had disagreements with Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos and eventually Ronaldo himself, after the pair had an argument over the tactics.

But the three-time Ballon d’Or winner insists that he doesn’t hold any grudge against Mou and said there is no tension between them. “Without any problems I would embrace him. One of my greatest qualities is to not hold grudges at anyone regardless of the damage they may have done to me. I'm not saying he did, I'm saying in general,” Ronaldo was quoted as saying.

“There were some problems like in life, like you have problems with your wife,” he added.

All other clubs can forget about me because Real Madrid is the best: Ronaldo

The Portuguese forward has had another spectacular season in front of goal, scoring 51 goals in just 47 games, in the process becoming the first player to score in excess of 50 goals for six consecutive seasons. He has a chance to add to his tally come May 28th as Real Madrid lock horns with city rivals Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final at the San Siro in Milan in their pursuit of La Undecima.

Cristiano though has been rumored to have already agreed on a transfer deal with French champions PSG and Manchester City too are said to be interested in the Portuguese’s services.

But the Sporting Lisbon youth product has confirmed his future for Los Blancos saying he is happy under Zinedine Zidane and would like to retire at the Santiago Bernabeu itself.

“Right now, yes, I am happy and I want to stay at this club. I don't see any other club that is better than Real Madrid. If you weigh things up, there is no better club. So all other clubs can forget about me because Real Madrid is the best,” he concluded.
