Cristiano Ronaldo will need to fire on all cylinders for Real Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to training at Real Madrid's training base as he intends to make the squad for Sunday's game against Real Sociedad. He earlier had posted a video on social media platform, Instagram where he looked in shape and fit as the video showed him running at full speed. He captioned the video saying, "No off days, Step by Step."

It was expected that Ronaldo will miss at least the first three games of the season as he suffered knee ligament damage in the Euros final against France. His clash against Dimitri Payet meant that it was the end for Portugal's enigmatic skipper’s involvement in the final, though Portugal turned out to be winners at the end, beating France in extra time. Ronaldo and his fellow teammate, Pepe were given extended holidays and have started training with the squad this week to challenge for La Liga in the 2016-17 season.

The 31-year-old Ronaldo, who won his third Champions League and his first international trophy, will look to add more honours to his name. He is the favourite for this year's Ballon d'Or as he will reduce the gap to just one behind Lionel Messi. This season offers the best chance for the Portuguese as Real have a good chance of winning the league as the Los Blancos have a strong spine in their team and haven't sold any of their star players this summer.

Real's trio BBC have not had a preseason to get used to the compelling physical conditions that will be required in the upcoming season. Barcelona's main players too haven't had complete preseason that gives Atletico Madrid an upper hand in the league campaign. Ronaldo needs to be at his scintillating best and must deliver at his usual goalscoring rate, if the Los Blancos want to snatch the title away from the former champions, Barcelona.

Former Real Madrid player, Kaka has recently showered words of praise for the Portuguese superstar, saying that, "Every year he has the motivation to keep going, to keep scoring and be the best player in the world. Sometimes when you have won a lot of things in your career, it is normal to slow down a little bit so maybe the motivation in your mind and mentality is not easy." The three-time Ballon d'Or winner may return to action this weekend.
