Former England captain and poster-boy for a certain generation, David Beckham, has reportedly been injured in a car crash. The 39-year-old was said to have been involved in the incident after picking up his eldest son, Brooklyn Beckham, from the Arsenal training ground on Saturday.

Father and son were in a grey Audi RS6 at the time of the incident, which collided with a silver Mitsubishi Colt. The extent of the damage is still unclear, but initial reports suggest that airbags prevented any serious injury.

The 15-year-old Brooklyn plays for Arsenal's under-16 side, and had been playing against Brighton's under-16s in Hertfordshire.

Brooklyn’s team-mate Thomas Cadman thought the whole episode was utterly surreal, tweeting: “Weird to play against Brooklyn Beckham earlier. Even weirder to be currently stuck behind David Beckham as he has crashed his car.”

Police have refused to confirm who the people involved in the incident were, only specifying which vehicles collided.
