David Moyes believes he deserves a respectful reception from Everton fans

Moyes has had a tough time in his first in charge at Old Trafford.

Manchester United manager David Moyes believes he deserves respect from Everton’s supporters as he prepares to return to Goodison Park for the first time since leaving the club.

Moyes ended his 11-year reign at the club to join Man Utd last summer in quite controversial fashion. He kept Everton fans on the edge of believing that he was to sign a new contract extension. For many weeks, supporters thought that Moyes would sign a new deal but he did not and had known for the whole time that he would be leaving for Old Trafford.

Moyes then made things worse by low-balling offers for Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini and saying some poor words.

When Everton beat United 1-0 at Old Trafford earlier in the season, Moyes was booed by the travelling supporters but he believes that he deserves a good response when United go to Goodison this weekend.

“They had their own reasons for it [in December],” Moyes said. ”There were a few problems with us trying to sign a couple of their players, but overall I was just doing my job for Manchester United.

“We sourced a big majority of the players at Everton and put them towards the team. I think we did everything in our power at Everton to make sure we got the best team we could.

“This game isn’t about me. It’s about two teams, both of whom are still in need of winning the game.

“The focus of attention shouldn’t be on me, it should be on the players, but I go there and I understand the Everton supporters have to get right behind their team.”
