Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang explains why he wants to move to La Liga in the future

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has already scored 20 goals in all competitions this season

Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has hinted at a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid in the future after a promise he made to his late grandfather, Telefoot reported. Aubameyang has revealed his grandfather was a huge fan of Los Blancos before he passed away last year.

The 26-year-old has been in scintillating form under Thomas Tuchel for Die Borussen this season and he is becoming a fan favourite at Westfalenstadion. With his lightning pace and athleticism, Aubameyang has been a nightmare for some of the Bundesliga defenders and he has already netted 20 goals in all competitions. He is also one of the fastest players in the world.

The Gabon international's impressive goal tally of 13 league goals has kept himself level with Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski, who has also been a huge part of the Bavarians success this season.

Top clubs all over Europe are keeping a close watch on the in-form Dortmund striker, including Barcelona. The club’s director Ariedo Braida was pictured at Weserstadion in Dortmund’s 3-1 victory over Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Aubameyang made a promise to his late grandfather

However, Aubameyang seems to have a clear-cut idea of where he wants to play in the future. The Gabon international might have dropped the biggest bombshell by hinting on a move to the Santiago Bernabeu in order to fulfil a promise made to his grandfather before his death. These reports could also be a big blow for Premier League clubs Liverpool and Arsenal who are also keen on bringing the player to England.

“I've signed a contract until 2020,” Aubameyang said in an interview. “Like I've always said, I have a dream of playing in Spain.

“To explain it, it's simple. My grandfather died a year ago already. I made him a promise that I would one day play in Spain. He was a fan of Real Madrid.

“I really hope to play in Spain one day. But for the moment I'm at Dortmund and what's important is to concentrate on that.”

I have proven the doubters wrong: Aubameyang

Before Aubameyang joined Bundesliga giants, he was unceremoniously sold by AC Milan and was frequently sent on loan to various clubs across Europe. France’s Saint-Etienne struck him on a permanent deal in 2011 and he instantly became an integral part of the squad. The Gabon international plied his trades as a wide player in France and he was then signed by Dortmund as a replacement for Lewandowski in 2013, who later joined club rivals Bayern.

The former Saint-Etienne player is enjoying his life at Westfalenstadion and he believes he has proven his doubters wrong with his ruthless instinct in front of goal.

“It’s true that defenders are inevitably asking themselves more questions.” he said. “Everyone who thought Aubameyang knew nothing aside from running or athletics was wrong. Since I was young I have been programmed to score goals.

“It’s something I really want to do, to be one of the greatest. Ronaldo and Messi are capable of scoring three goals, and then another four in the next game.
