Bournemouth scripted one best come from behind victories this season

Liverpool lost a 3-1 lead and ended up losing the game 4-3 against Bournemouth. The Reds also let the chance to go a point behind Chelsea slip as Jurgen Klopp will be left devastated with the result.

Sadio Mane and Divock Origi gave the visitors a 2-0 lead before Callum Wilson brought one back with a successful penalty. Emre Can then looked to wrap the game up with a fine finish to give Liverpool a 3-1 win. But the Cherries showed real belief as they fought hard to turn the tables on Liverpool, scoring three goals in the final 15 minutes to register a vital win for Eddie Howe’s side.

Bournemouth

Artur Boruc (5/10): The Polish stopper returned to the starting XI and he had to be on his toes for the most part of the game as Liverpool looked dangerous every time they attacked. Didn’t make any vital saves and maybe could have done better to prevent Liverpool’s opening goal.

Adam Smith (6/10): Smith began the game as a left back but did move back to his preferred right-back in the second half. He did a whole lot better on the right and managed to provide a greater attacking threat too.

Simon Francis (5/10): Francis struggled a bit against the likes of Firmino and Origi and the 31-year-old often couldn’t handle their movement. He looked much more accomplished after moving to centre back in the second half.

Steve Cook (6.5/10): The centre-half scored an absolutely brilliant goal with a finish that any striker would be proud of. Cook didn’t have much enjoyment defending but he will be thrilled that it was his goal that levelled the game at 3-3.

Nathan Ake (6.5/10): The on-loan Chelsea defender had a good game despite his team conceding thrice. Held off the challenges of the Liverpool attackers extremely well but allowed Mane to get in behind him for the game’s first goal. The 21-year-old went on to score the winner in dramatic fashion in stoppage time.

Dan Gosling (4/10): The former Everton player simply couldn’t find his feet in midfield and was mugged off the ball by Liverpool’s midfielders one too many times. He was taken off for the more attacking minded Benik Afobe for the final 15 minutes.

Harry Arter (6/10): Like Gosling, Arter too found it difficult to find space in the midfield in the first half but put in a much better shift in the second as Bournemouth attacked with intent.

Jack Wilshere (6/10): The Arsenal loanee is thriving under Eddie Howe since arriving at Bournemouth and it was another positive outing for the English international. He did struggle to find the killer pass in the final third but was heavily involved whenever the Cherries moved forward.

Junior Stanislas (5/10): Stanislas didn’t see much of the possession when he was on the field as Liverpool dominated the game and was replaced in the second half after sustaining an injury.

Joshua King (3/10): The forward was taken off for the second half after a poor showing in the first half. He was replaced by Jordan Ibe.

Callum Wilson (7/10): Wilson scored the penalty to get Bournemouth back in the game after a fruitless first half. He did a good job of holding the ball up and was instrumental in the Cherries incredible fight back.

Substitutes

Ryan Fraser
Ryan Fraser turned the game around afer his introduction

Jordan Ibe (4/10): The youngster came on to face his former team for the first time and was kept in check by his ex-teammates, not allowing him any time on the ball.

Ryan Fraser (8/10): The Scotsman turned the whole game around since coming on. He won the penalty, scored the second and made the third in what was the cameos of the season so far.

Benik Afobe (5/10): He was brought on for the final 15 minutes as Bournemouth pushed to get something out of the game and Afobe did his job well to help in the turnaround.

Liverpool

Liverpool Bournemouth
Liverpool failed to hold on to a two goal lead

Loris Karius (4/10): Karius had to make a couple of saves during the game and received heavy criticisms for two of the goals that Liverpool conceded, including the winner.

Nathaniel Clyne (5/10): Clyne was a real attacking threat down the right-hand side when Liverpool controlled the game but was unsuccessful more often than not with his deliveries. He did struggle in his defensive duties in the second half.

Lucas (5/10): Lucas filled in for the injured Joel Matiip and the Brazilian showed signs of struggle, especially in the second half as Bournemouth mounted wave after wave of attack.

Dejan Lovren (5/10): The Liverpool defence has simply not been up to the mark and Lovren is often the centre of many of the Reds’ problems. The Croatian didn’t have the worst of performances although he must play better if he is to justify his place in the starting line-up.

James Milner (5/10): After operating almost as a left wing back for most of the game, Milner showed his vulnerable side in defence after been given a torrid time by Fraser.

Jordan Henderson (6/10): The Liverpool skipper has been doing an excellent job in the ‘quarter-back’ role and it looked to be just another day for Henderson until Bournemouth switched into gear. He was invisible in the game after his side went on the back foot.

Can was one of the best Liverpool players on the field today

Emre Can (7/10): Can provided the assist for Mane’s opener and struck a sweet curling strike that looked to end Bournemouth’s hope of mounting a comeback but the German couldn’t prove himself when his side was forced to defend.

Georginio Wijnaldum (6/10): It was a tireless performance from the Dutchman although, like many other Liverpool players, he too switched off as the Reds crumbled in the final few minutes.

Sadio Mane (6/10): Mane poked in from close range to open the scoring after doing well to get in behind Ake. The winger gave Smith a tough time in the opening half but couldn’t replicate his form in the second. Lallana replaced the Senegalese international for the final 20 minutes.

Roberto Firmino (5/10): The Brazilian was a key threat to the Bournemouth defenders in the opening 45 but faded away as the game progressed. Firmino gave away possession far too easily as the Cherries closed the Liverpool players down well towards the end of the game.

Divock Origi (6/10): Origi missed a couple of sitters, although it was only his first Premier League start of the season. The Belgian striker doubled Liverpool’s lead from a tight angle with a brilliant finish in the first half to score his second goal in as many league games.

Substitutes

Adam Lallana (4/10): Lallana returned from injury to take Mane’s place in the field but he had no positive impact in the game as his side lost the plot towards the end.
