Swiss international Breel Embolo has been in impressive form this season for Basel, and his performances have caught the eye of several top European clubs. It is reported Premier League giants Manchester United are looking to hijack Bundesliga side RB Leipzig’s deal to sign the 19-year-old.
According to German daily Bild, Manchester United have offered Basel €35m for Embolo surpassing Leipzig’s bid of €20m plus bonuses. Jose Mourinho’s team have also offered the player wages worth €5m a year, whilst the Bundesliga outfit can only offer him €3m a year. We could very well see the Swiss starlet play his football in the English Premier League come the 2016-2017 season.
Jose Mourinho is keen on building a team of young stars at Manchester United, and has already completed a big money move for Eric Bailly. Manchester United, however, might have to convince Embolo’s mother, as she believes her son would get more breathing space at RB Leipzig, and it’d be easier for him to establish himself at the Bundesliga club.
Embolo’s agent, Erdin Shaqiri, who is the brother of Xherdan Shaqiri might favour a move to Manchester United, and the Stoke City star could help him settle in, as he also stays in Manchester.
Manchester United should be considered favourites at the moment, if the report in Bild can be believed, as RB Leipzig would find it extremely difficult to compete financially against the Premier League side.
Embolo has scored 13 goals and assisted another 9 for Basel this season, and is currently on international duty with Switzerland at UEFA Euro 2016 in France.
Meanwhile, reports in France suggest Manchester United should beat competition from five other clubs to sign Bordeaux midfielder Adam Ounas. According to RMC Sport, Manchester United, Stoke City, Southampton, Napoli, Leipzig, and another Premier League side have made an offer of €10m for Ounas.
The player has been linked to Manchester United for a while now, and it seems Jose Mourinho has decided to step up his interested in the young French midfielder. The 19-year-old had a good breakthrough season at the Ligue 1 club, and interest from several top clubs isn’t really surprising.
Manchester United, again, seem to have an advantage over others, and should be considered favourites, despite Napoli playing in the Champions League next season. The player should be tempted by the chance of playing in the Premier League, and under Jose Mourinho.
Ounas is primarily an attacking midfielder, who likes to play in the centre of the park, but can also play on the wings. He scored 6 goals and registered 3 assists in 30 league appearances for Bordeaux this season.
