Euro 2012: Team of the Night - Germany

Super Mario. Again! Oh wait, is it Mario Balotelli? I will gladly say no to you, it’s not him. This time it was Mario Gomez, the one who undoubtedly should be called the real Super Mario. So what about Balotelli? Well, I just hope this guy is brought down to earth. Anyways, he probably won’t play tonight, since Di Natale proved that he deserves to start the game.

So this is the second time I write about the Germans (and certainly won’t be my last time I guess), but they deserve it, don’t they? Won against two nations that represents the power of Europe with such a young squad, everyone who witnessed their game will or should be saluting them.

On the Denmark and Portugal game, our ‘world’s greatest striker’ scored two last night with his head. His second goal, kind of reminds me of his late winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Wolves at home in the Premier League. Do any Gooners still remember it? Aha.

I’ve never been so happy in this Euros to see Cristiano again struggle for the Portuguese side (But shame that my happiness couldn’t continue in the second game last night).

The winning goal from Portugal came from Silvestre Varela, the guy who was a chump in the clash with Germany but this time he’s the champ. ‘Fake’ shot with his left foot, then banged a right foot shot past Stephan Andersen’s net. 3-2 for Portugal.

Next was a ‘must win’ game for Netherlands. But, unfortunately, after the first forty five minute, they were down by two goals which were scored by Gomez after two assists from Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Right after the start of second half, Bert van Marwijk decided to test his luck by putting Huntelaar and van der Vaart in. This was a wise decision for me, to not take van Persie off and placing both Sneijder and van der Vaart in the middle together.

Results, well at least it sort of worked when van Persie scored with his weaker right foot. I repeat, his damn weaker right foot. Just imagine what he could have done with his left. Yes, he did miss the left foot shot in first half, but you can’t put the blame on him, right? Calculating the step, jump, determine the angles. It’s all difficult man. Geez.

From the German side, I was again impressed with Jerome Boateng. Noted it when Sneijder thought it would be his night when he just needed to shoot the ball, but this 23 year old man blocked it beautifully. Cool.

I will close this article with some quotes from my previous post on Germany:

“Indeed, the Germans are young and hungry. Under the command of Jogi Low, they obviously want to win this tournament, and I don’t see a reason why they can’t.”

That’s all for today folks. Thanks for reading and take care. Cheers.
