Foot and Ball (FAB) hosted its first football tournament exclusively for women on 5th October 2014 from 8am to 6pm at the Thyagaraj Stadium (near INA) in New Delhi. FAB is an upcoming start up company focusing on promoting women’s football in the country. The tournament on 5th October 2014 was divided into an U-19 Tournament and an Open Tournament with 6 & 7 teams respectively. The 13 teams primarily belong to schools/colleges/NGOs/academies in the NCR region.FAB sponsors (Unocal, The Terraces, Corum, World of Wonders, Adidas and Dr. Anand Purohit’s Sport Injury Clinic) showed great confidence and support in FAB with their banners set up across the field!
The day was packed with around 150 women football players deeply engaged in matches to achieve the first place in the respective tournaments. Finally, the Manthan Foundation and Girls in Boots secured the first place in the U19 and Open category respectively.
There was also an exhibition match, which was conducted between YUWA and the champions of the U19 Women Football Tournament.
During the games, there was a special appearance at the tournament by Delhi Dynamos players (Gustavo Santos, Bruno Arias, Hans Mulder, Anwar Ali, Shylo Malswamtluanga). The players enthusiastically clicked pictures, took autographs and witnessed some tricks by the Delhi Dynamo players.
Finally, the day ended with a prize distribution ceremony where the Champions and Runners Up were awarded a cash prize and certificates by FAB and coupons by their sponsor World of Wonders. Also, Delhi Dynamos promised Tickets for their inaugural game on 14th October against Pune FC to the champions of both categories. Finally FAB sponsor Adidas encouraged the participants through giving the Adidas golden boot to the top scorers in each category.
