Liverpool and Arsenal played out a 2-2 draw at Anfield on Sunday. The Reds dominated a large part of the first 45 minutes and took the lead courtesy a goal from Phillipe Coutinho, just before half-time. But that advantage lasted only for a few moments as the Gunners struck back courtesy an equaliser from Mathieu Debuchy in stoppage time of the first half.

Oliver Giroud regained the lead for Arsenal in the 64th minute and it looked likely that they would pocket home three crucial points until Martin Skrtel scored an injury-time equaliser to make it 2-2.

However, one of the biggest talking points of the game was the sending off of Liverpool forward Fabio Borini, after he landed a high kick on the chest of Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla. However, as the 23-year-old rushed his way into the tunnel, replays indicated that he had allegedly spat towards the Arsenal bench.

Manager Brendan Rodgers had brought on Borini in place of Lazar Markovic in the 74th minute and the Italian looked charged up as soon he entered the field. This was only his sixth appearance for the club this season.

The draw means that Liverpool are now on 10th position in the Premier League table, with 22 points in 17 games while Arsenal, now find themselves in the top 5 in the standings with 27 points.

Arsenal next play Queens Park Rangers on Boxing Day while Liverpool takes on a struggling Burnley at Turf Moor on the same day.

Here’s a video of Borini allegedly spitting towards the Gunner’s bench.
