Former FC Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova has passed away at the age of 45 after he lost his battle against cancer earlier today. He had been admitted to a hospital last week, following another relapse and was operated upon on Thursday after his health deteriorated.
Vilanova had been battling with throat cancer since November 2011 and some gastric complications made things worse. In the summer of 2013, he had to step down as the manager of Barcelona after suffering a relapse of the disease.
Barcelona went on to win La Liga after the departure of Tito, under care-taker manager Jordi Roura, who guided the team in the last two months of the campaign.
