Fresh match-fixing claims surround Ghana FA

The GFA is under pressure during the World Cup

Fresh match-fixing claims have hit the Ghana Football Association as a Ghanaian official, along with a registered FIFA agent, is alleged to have attempted to rig international friendly matches involving Ghana.

According to The Daily Telegraph and Channel 4's Dispatches programme, Christopher Forsythe, a registered FIFA agent, and Obed Nketiah, an official of the Ghana under-20 team, allegedly promised that they would be able to arrange a deal to manipulate Ghana’s forthcoming international friendlies.

The pair allegedly discussed that they would be able to bribe Ghana officials to buy the rights for the friendlies so that they could select the officials for the matches, who in turn would influence the scoreline according to their wishes.

The Ghana FA immediately called for the police to investigate the two men over the matter.

The GFA also confirmed that two men, Christopher Forsythe and Obed Nketiah, approached the organisation's chairman offering to purchase the rights to friendly matches involving Ghana. But, the GFA also clearly stated that they did not sign the contract as they were waiting for a legal opinion.

The GFA statement said: "We wish to state that the GFA did not sign the contract as we waited for the response from the legal committee and that the two gentlemen did not make such corrupt offers to the GFA or its officials."

However, Forsythe and Nketiah strongly denied any involvement in an attempt to fix matches.

Nketiah said, "These are false allegations and I will never in my life do such a thing."

Though there are no claims that affect the on-going World Cup matches, it is sure to trigger a new wave in the footballing world.
