Gouramangi and Subrata set for Danish trials; more IMG-R players to get similar opportunities in Europe

India internationals and IMG-Reliance contracted players Gouramangi Singh and Subrata Pal will leave for their three-week trials at Danish top tier outfit FC Vestsjaelland on Friday.

The duo was offered the trials by FC Vestsjaelland last month and now have completed all the formalities for their Denmark venture. This opportunity has been facilitated by AIFF’s commercial partners IMG-Reliance in association with FC Vestsjaelland’s partners Anglian Holdings and Red Bull.

During this training-cum-trial stint in Denmark, the players could also be turning up for the reserve team of FC Vestsjaelland and if they impress, the Danish club will have the option of loaning them from IMG-Reliance to field them in official matches for the main side.

The trial period could also be extended for another four weeks until the middle of December when Danish football will have its two-and-half month winter break. After that the duo will return to India ahead of the IPL-style football tournament which will take place between January and March 2014.

Sportskeeda has learnt that IMG-Reliance are looking to arrange similar opportunities in Europe for some of their other contracted players so as to keep them fit and also give them the ideal exposure ahead of the newly-proposed tournament where they will be playing with and against some big foreign names.

Thus the remainder of this calendar year could see a few more Indian players, who are contracted with IMG-R, follow in the footsteps of Gouramangi and Subrata and get some exposure abroad. Central defender Gouramangi had a trial with Australia’s Melbourne Heart in 2010 while goalkeeper Subrata had a training-cum-trial stint with German fourth division outfit Red Bull Leipzig last year.

Nabi misses out

However reigning AIFF Player of the Year Syed Rahim Nabi will miss out on his trial with USA’s MLS outfit DC United.

Nabi got his US visa last month but eventually couldn’t go due to a hamstring injury. It will still take him a few weeks to recover from the injury and since DC United are already out of contention for a playoff spot, their season ends on October 27. Hence Nabi will miss out on this rare opportunity.
