With the first set of two quarterfinals scheduled for tomorrow, West Bengal will take on SAI North East Regional Centre Assam in the first while in the second, Govt. Chawngfianga Middle School, Mizoram will lock horns with BS+2 High school Jharkhand Both the knockout matches will be played at the Ambedkar Stadium.

The Mizoram boys, who has had a fantastic goal-average after having beaten Haryana 11-0 in their first match, just needed a draw against the Odisha, who too had won their match against Haryana. But Mizoram knew it well that winning is a habit and they pressed for one against Shikshya Niketan and got with two goals, both coming from the boot of Lalrin Moses.

It is not that Odisha did not try. However hard they did, the Niketan boys could not penetrate the Mizoram defence and frustration in the field was showing. On the other hand, the middle school boys played true to their potential. Moses was their star striker and whenever his teammates fed, he was there to receive the ball and send it past the Niketan goalkeeper.

The story was no different for the Bijang Loubuk Manipur school boys, but it was less attractive in terms of speed and skill as they had a good opponent in St Xavier’s from Chattisgarh.. The boys from Chhattisgarh played hard football with a few opening coming their way. But a solid defence from the Manipuri’s they could neither find an equalizer nor make much of an impression against their rivals. John Lalkout Sangh was the savior for Manipur team with his neatly placed goal early in the match.

In comparison, Delhi’s Mamta Modern Senior Secondary School made asked several questions against Assam’s Nakachar Higher Secondary School. Reeling under pressure the Assam boys lost 1-4 in what was the best so far showing by a Delhi school in fray in the under-14 section.

If Harsh and Abhishek, who scored a brace each, were the architects of Mamta Modern’s victory, there were a few midfielders from their team that were instrumental in making continuous passes to the strikers. The quick-footed Harsh and Abhishek made most of what was sent in their direction with a well coordinated short passes.
